The Holy Mosque of Mecca Golconda (now Hyderabad) was built during the reign of the fifth Qutb Shahi Sultan Muhammad Qali Qutb Shah These three deposits are carved from a piece of faade [suspicious-talk] granite, which took five years to mine. More than 8,000 workers were employed to build the mosque. Muhammad Qali Qutb Shah personally laid the foundation stone and built it. Construction was abandoned after the emperor's death.
Jean-Baptiste Taurneer, a French explorer, observed in his travelogue:
He said that it has been almost 50 years since the city started building a magnificent pagoda in the city which, when completed, would be magnificent all over India. The size of this stone is the subject of special success and its strength. The place of his prayers is a huge rock in the place where he spent five years digging, and 500 to 600 men were permanently employed in his work. Take it to the pagoda. They took 1400 bulls to pull it.
